KEY WEST 2006

The Green Parrot

February 2 & 3, 2006

Key West, FL

The Lamont Cranston Blues Band

Yep, you guessed it. 2005 was such a great trip, that we had to go back. It is such a great feeling to get away in the middle of winter. And, there's nothing better than Key West in February.

This time I booked a flight right into Key West. At the lay over, I wound up on the same flight into Key West as Terry & Karen. Already did the Miami flight and rental car thing last year. I don't always like those puddle jumper flights, but this wasn't bad. You get into Key West a lot faster and in plenty of time to get a cold one for happy hour. Clem, Jean & Mark and more Minnesotans made the trip once again. My friend Sharon from Norman, OK even came down a few days later to join the fun.

Back at the Speakeasy Inn, our favorite place. Terry & Karen and I that is. We always stay there. Terry & Karen got this photo. I didn't think of taking one.

This time, the guys that drove (Pat, Greg & Dale) rolled into town with only a couple of hours to spare the day of the first gig. We all started to wonder if they were going to make it. Pretty amazing when you have 6 or 7 or 8 people scheduled to show up at the same place 2,000 miles away, that everyone actually makes it.

Once again, I will try to tell some of story in the photos here, but I will add more pics and stories as I go.

Back at the beach for a second year. We skipped the nude pool and resort this year, but that is where our friends Stan & Marilyn from the Carolinas stayed again (we met them last year there). Terry, Clem & Bob Tucker on the beach having some fun. Wow - look at those two ships coming in. The pelicans were out doing some fishing.

Happy hour at the Parrot. Stan got the lap dance of his life. Bob with the lap dancer, hoping it's his turn. Is Sharon scolding Stan or congratulating him?

Key West is the land of the wild roosters. I just didn't like them crowing in the alley next to my window at 4:00 in the morning, every morning. I was dying to try some fried rooster, but I never did. Strolled past Duffy's once again. Clem should really buy the place. The last photo is interesting. It had been a couple months since one of the bad huricanes just brushed Key West, but there was still evidence all around of just how powerful it really was. Someone's boat was still submerged in the harbor. Maybe, they hadn't made the trip South yet and had no idea.

These are some of Terry & Karen's great shots. Most of the group chartered a sailboat and headed out to sea. Looks like they all had a great time. Terry & Karen, Jean & Mark, Dale & Denise, Clem, Sharon.

This time I took a few shots of the band playing. Davina came down with us this time and blew the crowd away with her vocals. Quite a return for her after leaving there with us (Mike) in 2005. Tom Burnevik of Minneapolis (ex-original Cranston) even showed up to play some sax. Terry, Karen & Jean back on their same favorite bar stools. Can anyone say "Norm"? Dale and Denise having some happy hour fun. There were so many big cruise ships docked at night this time that I had to take a few night shots.

More of Terry & Karen's great shots. Great bar shots of the decor, the stage, the crowd at happy hour, Clem and I at the merchandise corner, the band, the posters. Lunch at some actress' (Kelly Lynch?) restaurant. Jean & I goofing around on the street (I didn't run into the Queen this time). Mike & Davina. A GREAT cruise ship shot at night....... AND, of course, the weird Green Parrot poster boy !!

Again, Super Bowl Sunday was the next day, so it was a lazy day. Another great vacation. Some of us hit the beach a lot, some took a sailing trip, some went fishing. A great time once again. Reality came the next day again when it was time to return to frozen Minnesota.
